*Yawwwwwwn* Another morning, wow these nights of slumber are going by really quick. I must be tired and really getting needed rest. Hmmm, there is a wheel chair next to my bed at 8:30 in the morning. I guess we are going on an adventure. Let me put my legs down by the bed side and sit up. I try to put my legs down but don't have all of the energy to get myself up, so Pat and the nurse help me. I am not sitting up and I make the transfer to the wheelchair with minimal help. That wasn't so bad.
Oh cool, we are going into an elevator, I wonder where this will take us. I just saw the nurse press L. Must be the lobby. Or lower? Or library? We will find out.
We get to this bright room and I see a couple of other people dressed like me in there. They are wearing gowns like myself and all are doing different things. One lady is peddling on a little mini bike contraption. Another man is lifting weights, little weights, but weights nonetheless. I remember when I used to lift weights, wonder if I am doing that today.
Ok there are two parallel bars ahead of me, right hand first...left hand next. And my elbows?! Ok, my elbows are on the bars, now I just got to lean forward and stand up. Wow, not so bad. Ok I can see myself in the mirror and the therapists are just holding me up a little. Now they are asking me to sit back down. That felt really good. I got to use all these muscles from before. Ok, lets repeat it. Easy, ok now they want me to move my feet forward? Wow, let's give it a shot. Left...left...left...LEFT! Now right...right...right...right...right...cmon...RIGHT! I just took my first step since I don't know when. I continue to take steps until I am tired, I took a total of 6 steps the first time and another 6 the second time. Man I am drained.
I am now at another station where the OT is showing me these things. First she shows me a white colored container, called a cup. She makes me repeat cup over and over again. I got it. Easy. Next she shows me a flat item, called a plate. Then a fork and a spoon. Ok I think I got it, this is pretty easy and fun, but I am getting a little tired.
Finally, I get to ride the bike! They put my two feet in and I start peddling away. The timer is set at 15 minutes but I don't stop when the timer stops, I go for another minute or so. I even went backwards. I am so happy. This morning has been great, but now I am getting sleepy. Until tomorrow morni...Goodnight.
